Major League Baseball power rankings

By Gracenote

The Boston Red Sox went 5-2 last week and their offence continued to push runs across the plate, averaging 6.14 per game. They hold onto the top spot in our weekly Major League Baseball power rankings.

1) Boston Red Sox - Mookie Betts left Sunday's game with a right shoulder contusion but won't miss any games. Betts has double-digit HRs and is stabilizing the top of the lineup.

2) New York Yankees - Last week the Yankees took three of four games in Houston and swept the Indians at home over the weekend. Domingo German stepped up nicely on Sunday and held Cleveland hitless for six innings.

3) Arizona Diamondbacks - Arizona has lost three of their last five games, but one of the two wins during that span was over Justin Verlander on Sunday.

4) Los Angeles Angels - Shohei Ohtani bounced back nicely from a mild left ankle sprain in order to beat the Mariners on Sunday. He held them to two runs and six hits in six innings.

5) Houston Astros - The Astros have lost five of their last six as the offence has gone a bit dry. They have scored just 17 runs over that span.

6) St. Louis Cardinals - Yadier Molina is having surgery for an injury that many viewers felt. Their pitching staff held opponents to an average of three runs per game last week.

7) Milwaukee Brewers - Josh Hader blew his first save on Saturday, but ended up picking a victory. He's been fantastic out of the bullpen.

8) Colorado Rockies - Colorado won five straight games to end its week and has thrived during this tough road trip.

9) Atlanta Braves - Atlanta's process of bringing in young talent is finally paying off this year as they sit atop the NL East standings. Mike Sorotka came back down to earth after losing to the Giants on Sunday.

10) Seattle Mariners - The Mariners alternated wins and losses this week, splitting a six-game homestand against the A's and Angels.
